Groups and Activities
The Billings UU Fellowship has a variety of groups and activities that strengthen our connection to each other and further our spiritual growth. Please come and join us as we learn and grow together! For more information about any of the activities below, please contact the office through the form at the bottom of this page.
All activities at the Fellowship are listed on our calendar. Click on each item for a description.
Sunday Services
Sunday mornings at the Fellowship are as diverse as the different names we give them. Some call them worship services or simply Sunday services. Others call them sermons or presentations. No matter what you call them, Sunday mornings at the Fellowship always offer a unique viewpoint and a fresh experience.
Adult Religious Exploration (ARE)
Adult RE organizes interesting and thought-provoking classes that explore spiritual, religious, and social justice issues.
Social Justice
Social justice is important to UUs everywhere, and our Fellowship is no different. We encourage everyone to join our Social Justice committee in working to educate and effect social justice change within and outside our walls. Meetings and activities are listed in all Fellowship announcements.
Caring
Our Caring Committee’s mission is to support those within our congregation who are suffering due to loss or illness.
For psychological counseling, the Fellowship is fortunate to benefit from the offer of three free sessions with one of our members who is a licensed social worker. Please call the office for his contact information.
Additionally, though we are a lay-led fellowship, we have made pastoral counseling available by contracting with several Billings ministers who have agreed to provide spiritual counseling for our members and associate members who are struggling with specific spiritual issues or conflicts.
Membership Development
When you visit our Fellowship, you will be greeted at the door, welcomed by our friendly congregation, and offered refreshments and fellowship after the service. If you’re comfortable with what you’ve experienced here, we invite you to join us at one of our quarterly orientation sessions where you will learn more about Unitarian Universalism and determine if membership is right for you.
Children’s Religious Exploration (CRE)
Children are welcome at the Billings Unitarian Universalist Fellowship! We offer a nursery with year-round infant and toddler care as well as Children’s Religious Exploration classes during the school year and activities during the summer.
The CRE curriculum is coordinated by our CRE Director, Anna Nentwig, who also coordinates and trains our group of dedicated volunteer teachers.
Green Sanctuary
The Green Sanctuary program was developed to help UUs make congregational life reflect the seventh Principle of Unitarian Universalism, “Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.” While working to integrate sustainable environmental practices into the operations of the Fellowship, our Green Sanctuary committee also sponsors events and programs that explore environmental topics. If environmentalism is your passion, then this is the group for you. For more information, contact Kris Prinzing or check out the UUA’s Green Sanctuary page here.
Peace Circle Meditation
There are many benefits of meditation, including improved focus, deeper relaxation, decreased stress, and better overall health. Please join us every Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. at the Fellowship for a group meditation that includes seated and walking meditation, readings, and a short discussion of the experience. Beginners and experienced meditators alike are welcome.
Poetry Group
Newcomers are welcome to join the BUUF Poetry Group, which meets the first Tuesday of the month at Jim and Nancy Taylor’s home in Billings. Participants bring poems of all flavors to share and discuss with the group.
Circle Dinners
Circle Dinners, which are small groups of people who gather in volunteers’ homes for dinner and conversation, are a great opportunity to socialize with other people in our congregation. Circle Dinner events are held several times a year and are announced in the newsletter.
