Our Services
We invite you to join us each Sunday as we come together to pursue our free and responsible search for truth and meaning. As Unitarian Universalists, we do not share a creed or dogma; instead, we share an interest in exploring a wide variety of theological sources, beliefs, and practices in our pursuit of spiritual growth. Each service is different and intended to provide you with the bread you’ll need as you travel your own religious journey.
Our hope for each service is to accomplish one or more of the following:
• Build a committed community
• Inspire wonder and awe in the beauty of nature and the cosmos
• Center ourselves and find order in the chaos of our experience
• Discover and empower what gives life worth
• Connect us with something greater than ourselves
• Stimulate thinking, empathy, and spiritual growth
• Challenge the proud, strengthen the disheartened, and comfort the needy
• Celebrate what we share in common and respect our differences
• Energize us to be our best selves
Our Sunday services are held every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. As you enter the building, you will be greeted and handed an order of service. If you have children, you’re welcome to bring them to the nursery, where we offer year-round infant and toddler care, or to the Children’s Religious Exploration (CRE) room, where we offer CRE classes during the school year and activities during the summer. Our building is wheelchair accessible.
We are a lay-led congregation, and our services explore ideas, issues, and beliefs through readings, meditation, music, and lay-led and clergy-led presentations.
In a typical Sunday service, the leader begins by ringing a bell and welcoming the congregation. We then light the chalice, which is the symbol of the Unitarian Universalist faith.
The service ends when we extinguish the chalice and sing our traditional song, “Shalom Salaam,” while holding hands in a large circle. We invite everyone to join us afterward for fellowship, refreshments, and occasionally, discussions, meetings, and special events.
Special Services
Family Services
Several times a year, we hold fun and meaningful services that include contributions from the children.
Justice Sunday
Each spring, in conjunction with the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC), UU congregations nationwide stand together and set aside one Sunday for worship and education focused on one pressing human rights issue.
Passover Seder
This seven-day holiday is the most commonly celebrated holiday among Jews and is related to the Exodus from Egypt after generations of slavery. The Fellowship hosts a Seder dinner during Passover and observes many of the Seder customs and traditions.
Pledge Drive Kickoff Sunday
This service is held in the spring and focuses on stewardship, giving as spiritual practice, and the role of money in our lives as we begin the annual Pledge Drive, which funds our budget and supports the Fellowship’s programs.
Earth Day Service
Unitarian Universalism’s seventh principle, “Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part,” makes Earth Day, on April 22, a day to celebrate religiously. Themes include earth-centered spirituality, the interdependent web, connecting to the divine through nature, and caretaking of the environment.
Homecoming
This is the first service of the new church year in September. It includes teacher dedication and the Water Communion ritual, when we pour a small amount of water from a place we found meaningful into a large bowl. The combined water represents our coming together and our shared faith that comes from many sources.
Christmas Eve Service
Generally, we sing Christmas carols, listen to a story that conveys the spirit of Christmas, and enjoy Christmas refreshments.
As with all of our services, families, friends, and visitors are welcome.
